Event Details

If there's one thing you can say for sure about the Last Chance for Boston Relay Marathon & Half Marathon race, it's this -- you'll get to know the course. That's because participants run a roughly one-mile loop course over and over (13 times for runners in the half-marathon), making it an ideal race for relay teams of two, three, four or even five runners. Set in Dublin, a northwestern suburb of the Columbus metro area, the race starts and finishes in the shadow of nearby Interstate 270.

The starting line lies along Metro Place North, just a stone's throw from the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel at 600 Metro North Place, where race organizers recommend participants stay thanks to its close proximity to the start line and the race course. From there, the course follows a simple, counter-clockwise loop route around Metro Place North and Metro Place South, and along the service road that parallels Frantz Road.

Thanks to its uniquely tight loop course around the Metro Place streets, the Last Chance race is probably one of the flattest races you'll ever run, as there's an elevation change of just 4 feet over the course of the entire race. The course does make for easy viewing by spectators, who come out on what is usually a very cold day in the Dublin area for the race -- there's usually a few hundred people out there in temperatures that sometimes reach the 20s, occasionally with snow, this time of year.

All that said, the race is close to ideal for what its title promises: a chance to notch a personal record time and get into the Boston Marathon, which is run the following April each year. Organizers permit the relay participants to run as many laps as they please and change out with their partners as often as they like, and all four races in the event start at 8:00 AM.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along Interstate 270 on the northwest corner of the Columbus metropolitan area, the town of Dublin is known for its cold and often snowy weather in the mid- to late-winter season. In February, area monthly temperatures average between 41°F and 22°F, while precipitation amounts average around 2.26 inches for the month.
