Ohio > Findlay Red, White & Blue Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K
Findlay, OH • Sunday, October 5, 2014 • Course Map
An out-and-back loop course through the rolling countryside outside this northeastern Ohio city that's nicknamed "Flag City USA" awaits runners at the Findlay Red, White & Blue Half Marathon & 10K, which makes its 5th annual running in October 2014, after last year's race saw a few hundred runners and walkers cross the finish line in both races combined.
Designed as a fundraiser for the Findlay Family YMCA's annual giving campaign -- which helps support the YMCA's subsidized programs throughout the Findlay and Hancock County area -- the race follows a loop route that starts and finishes just north of the Findlay Reservoir, which lies just a few miles southeast of the city's downtown, and features less than 20 feet of total elevation change over the course of the race.
From the starting line, runners then head out on a counter-clockwise loop around the reservoir, heading south first along Marion Township 208 Road and then turning right to head west on Township Road 207. Runners (and walkers -- the half marathon is open to both, while the full marathon is open to runners only) stay on 207 for roughly the next three miles, until they meet up with County Road 205, where they turn left and head east.
County Road 205 brings the field east past Fairview Golf Course and then, just after they've passed Hickory Grove Cemetery, runners turn right and head south along Township Road 244.
They'll stay on 244 until it meets up with County Road 173, which they follow as the road bears to the left and finally straightens out to head east into the half marathon's one out-and-back stretch (runners in the full marathon will make the out-and-back stretch twice, as they make two loops around the reservoir).
Once runners make the out-and-back along 173, they then turn right onto Trail 190 and head north for the next two and a half miles. There's a final couple of turns -- left onto 207 and then a right turn just before runners reach the reservoir -- before runners then head back up to the starting line area for the race finish.
In addition to both the full and half marathons, there is also a five-person marathon relay -- 10 relay teams competed in the 2012 race.
