Ohio > Run to the Beach Half Marathon, 5K & Relays
Akron, OH  •  Saturday, April 21, 2012  •  Course Map

Set for its third annual running in the spring of 2012 -- but its first with the 13.1-mile race distance -- Akron's Run to the Beach Half Marathon, 5K and Relays is set to take runners for a mostly flat and fast run along the lakeshore of Portage Lakes State Park, whose more than 2,000 acres of lakes, camping sites and hiking trails make it a popular recreation spot for boating and fishing here in northeastern Ohio.

The race will follow an out-and-back course that shares the same starting line as the 5K Run/Walk, in the parking lot near the park's beach area and disc golf course, just off Manchester Road, just under an hour's drive south from downtown Cleveland. Runners will make their way mostly on paved roads through Portage Lakes State Park, along Green and New Franklin Streets, and much of the race route will take runners along the lake's shoreline.

The finishing stretch of the race brings runners to the Portage Lakes beach, where they'll finish on the sand. For runners who don't feel up to the challenge of running 13.1 miles on their own, there will also be a 3-person half marathon team relay in addition to the 5K for both runners and walkers. The scheduled starting time for the race is 9:00 AM, and organizers note that relay teams may be coed, all-male or all-female.
