Ohio > Soaring Eagle Runs Boy Scout Half Marathon & 5K
Bowling Green, OH • Saturday, August 31, 2013 • Course Map

Set for its annual running as summer is transitioning to fall here in northern Ohio, after a 2012 race that saw more than 400 runners cross the finish line in all three races combined, Bowling Green's Soaring Eagle Runs features three race distances -- the Boy Scout Half Marathon, the Tenderfoot 5K and the "Tiger Cub" half-mile run for kids.
Each of the races is designed to get both local Boy Scouts and members of the community involved in this event, to promote both athleticism and an active and healthy lifestyle as well as the Scouting values and traditions, as Scouts of all ages will participate in the race by volunteering at the start and finish line as well as the water stations throughout the course.
The event's Boy Scout Half Marathon follows an out-and-back loop course that starts and finishes -- the starting time for the half is 8:00 AM -- under the grandstands at the Wood County Fairgrounds on West Poe Road. From there, runners follow a counter-clockwise loop route over the first half that takes them along Poe Road, Mitchell Road, Bishop Road and Liberty Hi Road before turning onto Gorrill Road to start the second half of the 13.1-mile course.
Runners will find that the terrain is mostly flat for the first half, which unfolds along rural country roads through wide-open farm fields just west of Bowling Green. The second half of the race changes up the scenery with stretches through the residential neighborhoods and golf course areas just to the south of the fairgrounds, giving runners the only real hills to speak of on the course around the mile 9 marker.
The last few miles of the half bring runners onto Conneaut Avenue, Fairview Avenue and then back onto Poe Road for the home stretch back in to the finish line, where they'll finish the race with a loop around the track at the fairgrounds.
