Ohio > Tour de Ashland Half Marathon, Team Relays & 5K
Ashland, OH  •  Saturday, December 1, 2012  •  Course Map

One of the newer road race running events on the calendar in this scenic and hilly city in northern Ohio, Ashland's Tour de Ashland Half Marathon, Team Relays and 5K was run for the first time ever in 2006 and welcomed just over 430 runners for the race's 2011 running, making this small, intimate race something of a wintertime counterpart to the city's summertime Holiday Balloonfest 5K Race, which is run each year on the fourth of July.

Like the city itself, the 13.1-mile race course is scenic and hilly, starting at Ashland Community Stadium on Katherine Avenue. From there, runners follow a somewhat circuitous path through the city, along a mostly counter-clockwise loop that takes runners past and through local greenspace areas like Myers Field and Brookside Park. The course is run on paved surfaces throughout the race, and features very few flat stretches -- there is an overall elevation change of just over 200 feet through the course of the race.

Runners will reach the highest point in the race just after the second mile marker, at just over 1,275 feet above sea level, while the lowest point in the race arrives just after the 5-mile marker, when the course drops to around 1,040 feet above sea level. Race organizers will have limited traffic control throughout the race, though they will have crossing guards posted at the eight major intersections along the course and police escorts for much of the race.

On the day of the race (Dec. 1), the average high is 42°F and the average low is 26°F.
