Oregon > Edward Jones Canby Charity Run Half Marathon & 10K
Canby, OR  •  Saturday, August 25, 2012  •  Course Map

Runners will follow an out-and-back loop route that takes them all the way to the banks of the Willamette River, which courses through most of the western half of Oregon, at the second annual running of the Edward Jones Canby Charity Run Half Marathon & 10K Run/Walk on the weekend before Labor Day in late August 2012.

Both the half marathon and the 10K start and finish at Canby's New Life Foursquare Church, which lies just off Southeast Territorial Road to the northeast of downtown Canby. From there, runners and walkers follow the route as it makes what is roughly a V-shaped loop along South Hanes Road, Canby Mulino Road, Southeast 13th Avenue and Logging County Road before bringing runners all the way up to the loop section of Logging County Road right on the banks of the river.

Once runners make the turn at the loop -- they'll pass the mile 6 marker here -- they then head back southward along Logging County Road, retracing their steps in the opposite direction. There are a couple of detours on the route back to the finish -- instead of heading all the way south down Logging County Road, runners turn right on 4th Avenue for quick stretches along Redwood Street, South Township Road and South Teakwood Street -- but much of the second half is similar to the first half, just in reverse.

This largely fast and flat course unfolds on a very gradual descent over the first six miles, followed by an equally gradual uphill over the second half of the race. As this is the Canby Charity Run, proceeds from the event will go to benefit two locally based charities, The Canby Center and the Canby Pregnancy Care Center. The starting time for both races is scheduled for 7:00 AM.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in the state's northwest corner, just over 20 miles south of downtown Portland in the Willamette River valley, Canby typically sees August temperatures that average between 82°F and 55°F, while rainfall totals average just over 0.6 inches for the month -- very dry compared to the fall, winter and spring months in the area. On the day of the race (Aug. 25), the average high is 81°F and the average low is 54°F.
