Oregon > Hippie Chick Half Marathon & Quarter Marathon
Hillsboro, OR • Saturday, May 10, 2014 • Course Map
An all-women's half marathon race that is held each spring on Mother's Day weekend and whose proceeds support Portland's local Raphael House women's shelter, the Hippie Chick Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and Fun Run takes hundreds of runners over the past few years on a double-loop course every year.
(Note: Until late 2013, the race was owned and managed by RunWithPaula, an Oregon-based race management company. The race was sold this year and in 2014 will be run as part of the Better Series, owned and managed by the race organizers that run the Hood-to-Coast race.)
The race unfolds along the bike paths, riverside trails and rolling country roads that wind through Oregon's Champoeg State Heritage Area, a 615-acre park on the banks of the Willamette River that also plays host to the Champoeg Half Marathon in the fall. Just shy of 2,800 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined in 2012, including 1,860 finishers in the half marathon alone.
Two years ago, the race organizers announced an all-new course for the race in nearby Hillsboro -- the race is "growing up and moving to Washington County, Oregon beginning in 2011," organizers announced on their website -- that featured an out-and-back loop route that starts and finishes at Hillsboro Stadium at the Gordon Faber Recreational Complex Hillsboro, a more than 90-acre sports facility that features fields for sports ranging from softball, soccer and football to baseball and lacrosse.
From the starting and finish line just off the Evergreen Parkway, runners follow what is basically a double-loop course along the Evergreen Parkway, North Sewell Road, Meek Road, Brookwood Parkway, Huffman Street and Bennett Street before turning off to head back to the stadium for the race finish. Those running the quarter marathon will make the loop once, while those running in the half marathon will make two loops along the route before turning in to Hillsboro Stadium for the finish.
Along the way, runners will pass by a number of local parks including the Hondo Dog Park just outside the recreational complex near the start/finish line, and along plenty of rolling country roads just outside Hillsboro in the middle miles of the race.
The race also offers a one-mile run for kids that starts at 7:30 AM -- the half and quarter marathons start at 8:00 AM.
