Event Details

One of Oregon's smaller running events, the Hulaman Half Triathlon and Half Marathon welcomed just over 140 competitors at its 2008 running, with an estimated 46 runners and walkers crossing the finish line in the 13.1-mile half marathon portion of the event, which features a mostly flat double-loop course that starts and finishes at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex in nearby Hillsboro, just outside Portland, and features paved surfaces throughout most of the race.

From the starting line just outside the athletic fields at the recreational complex, runners head southward along Bennett Street and 229th Avenue, passing the Hondo Dog Park along the way. The route takes runners south along 229th until meeting up with Butler Street, where the course turns west and heads for a long straightaway along Butler, which becomes Airport Road as it nears the Portland-Hillsboro Airport.

The race route then turns north onto the Brookwood Parkway, which runners and walkers follow for a brief stretch before heading off-road and into a park just off the parkway, and follow the path around the edges of the park until they meet up with Dawson Creek Drive. There are a few turns and switchbacks once runners re-enter the Brookwood Parkway, down the tree-lined Dawson Creek Drive and then back onto the parkway again for the turn onto Evergreen Street, which takes runners back toward the starting line.

Upon reaching the intersection of Evergreen and 229th, race participants then run the course a second time before finishing back at the recreation complex. Organizers plan to allow eight hours for all participants to finish the half marathon, and the finish line festivities include a Hawaiian-style luau with live music.
