Oregon > 3 Rivers Race Against Domestic Violence Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
La Grande, OR  •  Saturday, June 7, 2014  •  Course Map

Set for its 13th annual running as spring is giving way to summer here in northeastern Oregon, the 3 Rivers Race Against Domestic Violence is a family-focused running event that raises money to support charities against domestic violence.

All proceeds raised by entrants will be donated to local nonprofits that fight domestic abuse and violence, including Shelter from the Storm, Mayday and Safe Harbor.

Runners are encouraged to collect as many pledges as possible and prizes are handed out to top solicitors. In addition to the half marathon, there are also a number of other running and biking events on the day of the race, which also includes a 5K or 10K and bikers can ride in a 70-mile, or a 100-mile race. The scheduled starting time for the 13.1-mile race is 10:00 AM, which will allow runners to sleep in a little before the event.

All participants begin and end their race in Pioneer Park, whose 30 acres is home to a number of organized athletic events throughout the year including baseball, soccer, and football. From there, this road course is out-and-back and racers will retrace their steps as they return to the finish line.

From the starting line inside Pioneer Park, runners will head west on Palmer Avenue. Making a few turns to go around the block, runners will make their way to 2nd Street. Heading north on 2nd Street, they will pass by the sights and sounds of the northeast portion of La Grande.

Runners will cross the Old Oregon Trail Highway, aptly named for the stretch of trail that pioneers traveled in the mid-19th century. Past the first mile marker, the course begins to head west on Blackhawk Trail Lane. Just before mile marker 2, racers will reach Mount Glen Road. Over the next 4+ miles the course continues to become more rural as the town of La Grande fades into the distance. Runners can view the 10K turnaround point at mile 3.1, at the intersection of Leffel Road.

For about the next three miles, the half-marathoners continue on Mount Glen Road. At the intersection of Starr Lane, racers will make a U-turn and head back to town. They will view familiar sites as they travel the same route to return to the finish line. The second half will provide runners ample opportunity to get a glimpse of any scenery they may have missed in the first half.
