Details
With the perfect set up for first-time and beginning marathoners and
half-marathoners – as well as the perfect opportunity for
competitive runners to reach personal record times – the race
course for the Erie Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is described
by its organizers as “quite possibly the flattest course in
the country.” The 13.1-mile course for the half-marathon is a
single loop around the park, while full marathoners run this loop
twice.
Both runners and walkers are welcome at all of the races for this
event, which starts at 7:00 AM and takes participants on a tour of
Presque Isle State Park just outside Erie, and features the starting
and finish lines at the park’s Rotary Pavilion Area. Along
the way, participants are treated to scenic views of the
park’s beaches along Lake Erie as well as its 15 miles of
trails for hikers, bicyclists and cross-country skiers.
The terrain for all races is entirely paved surfaces along the Presque
Isle park’s roads. For participants who expect to take longer
than the allotted time for the race (5 hours), there is an early
starting time of 6:00 AM.
