Event Details

More than 4,000 runners flock to the Lehigh Valley here in eastern Pennsylvania for the annual springtime running of Allentown's Lehigh Valley Half Marathon & 5K, which also includes a 1.5-mile "fun run" that's free of charge for participants who don't feel up to running either of the event's other two races. Filled with gently rolling hills and the scennic natural beauty of the city's Lehigh River Parkway, the out-and-back course features mostly flat terrain over the city's streets and park pathways along the river.

Closed to traffic for three and a half hours, the race course takes runners over rolling hills and through a covered bridge on the picturesque Lehigh Parkway, with a few slight-to-moderate changes in elevation throughout the race (the highest point on the course tops out at 340 feet above sea level, while the lowest is about 250 feet). The race also features plentiful music for participants, with 10 live bands stationed along the race route.

The event's three races start separately beginning at 8:00 AM with the 5K run, 8:10 AM for the half marathon and 8:15 AM for the runners and walkers participating in the 1.5-mile fun run. All races share the same starting line, at the city's William Allen High School on North 17th Street, and the half marathon finishes at the track stadium just a few blocks east of the high school.
