Runners will get the chance to cross the finish line on the famed Pocono Speedway -- known to NASCAR fans as the Tricky Triangle, where a pair of racing's Sprint Cup race series events take place each year -- at the all-new Rapid Running Pocono Half Marathon, which also plans to host a 5K and a fun run for kids at its inaugural running in the late spring of 2012.
Part of a series of running and cycling events known as the Rapid Running Event Series, the Pocono half marathon will follow a point-to-point course that starts just off Long Pond Road, and then finishes inside the superspeedway where NASCAR's drivers race down the tracks. Organizers note that live bands will be playing music throughout the course and at the finish line, and the scheduled starting times for the half marathon and 5K are 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM, respectively.
The fun run for kids -- a one-mile fun run that starts and finishes on the Pocono Speedway track -- will be run the Friday evening before the Saturday half marathon and 5K, beginning at 6:30 PM.
