Pennsylvania > Wendy's Wonderful Kids Family Fitness Weekend
Wilkes-Barre, PA  •  Saturday, August 31, 2013  •  Course Map

Part of a weekend filled with running events known as the Wendy's Wonderful Kids Family Fitness Weekend that are run on both Friday and Saturday through the streets of this city in the shadow of the Pocono Mountains and the nearby Lehigh Valley, the half marathon, 10K and 5K make their 4th annual running as summer is giving way to fall here in Wilkes-Barre.

The Labor Day weekend race is run as a benefit for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, which the late Wendy's Hamburgers founder began in 1990 and today works to spread awareness of adoption throughout the U.S. Runners will start the out-and-back course for the half marathon on Wilkes-Barre's River Commons park, near the intersection of River Street and Northampton Street -- starting at 8:00 AM for both the 13.1-mile race and the 10K.

From there, runners follow the first of two loops through the city that are identical -- runners in the 10K run only the first loop, which takes them along River Street and through the campus of King's College, and then onto Franklin Street and Riverside Drive, for a stretch that unfolds along the Susquehanna. That's followed by a stretch toward Miner Park, along Marlboro Avenue, Old River Road, Dagobert Street, Crescent Avenue and Gordon Avenue, where runners hit the turnaround point between the mile 4 and 5 markers.

Once they make the turn, the course then brings the runners back toward downtown and the River Commons park along most of the streets they've just run. Those running the 10K cross the finish line on River Street, while those running the half marathon make a second loop along the same course before they cross the finish line.
