Pennsylvania > Yough River Trail Council Half Marathon
& 5K
Connellsville,
PA
Date
Saturday, April 12, 2008
Event
Details
Along this onetime railroad that ferried train passengers in days long
past along the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad in southwestern
Pennsylvania, the Yough River Trail Council Half Marathon now unfolds
along the 43-mile trail of the same name, now in use as a multi-purpose
recreational trail for biking, running, walking, fishing and canoeing.
Part of a planned larger recreational trail called the Great Allegheny
Passage, the Yough River Trail welcomed more than 150 runners and
walkers for the 2007 running of the event.
Though it is a smaller, more intimate running event, the race stands
out for its abundant rural, open-spaces scenery along a mixed-surface
course made up of both paved and gravel trails, which runs in parallel
to the Youghiogheny River. The out-and-back course includes a few
rolling hills but no steep uphills or downhills, though it does take
runners across a few wooden bridges along some brief parts of the
trail. The starting time for both the half-marathon and the 5K run/walk
is 10:00 AM.

63°F, while precipitation averages about 3.73 inches for the
