South Carolina > Hilton Head Island Half Marathon
Hilton Head
Island, SC
Date
Saturday, February 9, 2008
Event
Details
The 2007 Hilton Head Island Half Marathon welcomed just over 330
participants for this South Carolina
resort island's fifth annual race, which is run to benefit the Hilton
Head Regional
Medical Center's "Strive to Excel" program and the Hilton Head Island
Children's Memorial Garden. Fast and largely flat, this scenic race
course
takes runners and walkers in the half marathon and the 10K from the
starting line
at the island's Jarvis Creek Park along a course that's made up mostly
of paved roads and a few bike trails. The race's only hills occur at
the bridge over Broad Creek, which crosses about a one-mile span
(runners in the half-marathon cross the bridge twice during the race).
Both the half marathon and the 10K start at 8:00 AM, and both races are
open to both runners and walkers -- the walking portion of the event
begins shortly after the runners leave the starting line. The course is
restricted to race participants until 11:00 AM, when it is opened again
to traffic.
