Event Details

Named by USA Today as one of the country's "10 great winter marathons," South Carolina's Myrtle Beach Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K includes a weekend full of running, walking and biking events that drew more than 5,500 runners in all three races combined at the event's 2009 running (with nearly 3,000 of those runners participating in the event's Dasani Half Marathon).

The race takes runners along the coastline of perhaps South Carolina's most popular tourist destination, starting and finishing near downtown's BB&T baseball field, the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a class A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves.

This fast, flat out-and-back course starts at the intersection of Grissom Parkway and 21st Avenue North, and takes runners along paved city streets through the city, along Ocean Boulevard with miles of views of the Atlantic Ocean beaches. After a few twists and turns in the race's early going that take runners around Broadway at the Beach, a shopping, dining and entertainment area not far from the seashore, runners then follow 29th Avenue North toward Ocean Boulevard, where they make the turn onto Ocean for a miles-long straightaway along the beach.

Along this stretch of the course, runners and walkers are taken through some of Myrtle Beach's most notable tourist attractions, including the Family Kingdom Amusement Park, as the miles of hotels tower over the beachfront and look out onto the waters of the Atlantic. Following the race, the event organizers host a post-race party for all participants at the House of Blues.
