Details
With just under 200 participants in last year's event for both the
half-marathon and the 5K race, the On The Half Shell Half Marathon is
one of the South Carolina's smaller running events, though it is also
certainly one of the state's most scenic. Run entirely along the hard
sand beaches of Hilton Head Island, the race starts and finishes at the
Holiday Inn Oceanfront at the island's Coligny Beach area, and features
a flat, natural terrain surface throughout the race course.
Run as a benefit for the South Carolina Special Olympics, the race will
take place rain or shine, organizers say, and starts promptly at 8 a.m.

Weather & Climate
The month of December typically brings cool, mild weather with
occasional precipitation to the Hilton Head area, with temperatures
that average between 40°F and 60°F. The island sees
just over 3.1 inches of rainfall during the month, making it among the
area's drier months of the year.
Fees
$40 for half-marathon individual participants (before Nov. 24; $45
after Nov. 25)
$50 for half-marathon teams ($55 after Nov. 25)
$20 for runners in the 5K Run/Walk ($25 after Nov. 25)
