Details
Runners get a chance to trek through the rustic beauty of the Black
Hills at this unique event, which includes two full marathons, two
half-marathons, a marathon relay, a
5K and kids' 1K race in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.
Runners choose to start at either Mt Rushmore National Memorial or
Crazy Horse
Memorial and both courses merge at mile 10 to finish in historic
downtown Hill City, S.D. The event shows off much of the region's
natural beauty as well as its
man-made sculptural treasures, including Mount Rushmore and the Crazy
Horse
Memorial.
The Mt Rushmore Half Marathon course will start at Mt Rushmore and
proceed down Highway 244 and then get onto the Mickelson Trail and head
north into Hill City. The Crazy Horse Half Marathon course will start
at Crazy
Horse Memorial. Participants will then run out towards the monument
under the
outstretched arm of Chief Crazy Horse to the turnaround point. Runners
will then head back past the Visitor's Center and towards the Crazy
Horse Memorial Entrance to get on the Mickelson Trail and head North
into
Hill City. Both courses merge at mile 10 on the Mickelson Trail and
finish
the last three miles together.
Shuttle buses are provided to ferry participants from the event host
hotels to the starting line for the 7:00 AM start. A high-elevation
race, the course ranges from 5,250 feet above sea level at the starting
line to 5,026 feet at the finish.

Weather & Climate
Fall in the Black Hills region brings cool to mild weather conditions
with little rain or humidity. In October, temperatures average between
61°F and 34°F, while precipitation averages about 1.57
inches
for the month.

$45 for the half marathon, if registered by May 1, 2009
$50 between May 2 - July 1
$55 between July 2 - September 1
$60 between Sept. 2 - October 1
$65 on Oct. 2
