Event Details

The campus and surrounding neighborhoods around Murfreesboro's Middle Tennessee State University serve as the backdrop for the autumn running of the Murfreesboro Half Marathon, a race that marks just its third annual running in 2009 and saw its event limit of 2,000 runners sign up for its past two years. Featuring a course that takes runners along a largely fast and flat route through the city, the race features a run down the tree-lined straightway of Main Street and a turnaround at the city's historic Oaklands Mansion, along a route that varies only about 40 feet in elevation throughout the entire race.

From the starting line on Greenland Drive, in front of MTSU's track and field facility, runners follow what is roughly a counter-clockwise loop course through the city, with a number of turns in the first few miles of the race. The course takes runners past Evergreen Cemetery and Middle Tennessee Medical Center and then onto Maney Avenue, where the up-and-back run along this street features the view of Oaklands Mansion at the end of it, followed by the return route back to Main Street and the run around the square at the Rutherford County Courthouse.

After the run around the courthouse square, the course takes runners along Main Street and turns onto Middle Tennessee Boulevard, and then again onto Mercury Boulevard for the section of the race that returns up to the university campus, where runners will get to run along MTSU's Fraternity Row. After this stretch, the course straightens out North Rutherford Boulevard and then turns around onto Old Lascassas Road, for the final stretch of the race into the finish line at the track and field athletic complex.
