Texas > Holiday Half Marathon Moody Gardens
Galveston, TX • Sunday, November 18, 2012 • Course Map
Set for its inaugural running on the weekend before Thanksgiving in November 2012 -- which coincides with the annual Festival of Lights displays at Moody Gardens leading up to the Christmas holidays -- the all-new Holiday Half Marathon at Moody Gardens also features a family fun walk in addition to its 13.1-mile run.
The race is set to follow a double-loop course along the fast, flat streets of Galveston Island, through the resort and amusement park area known as Moody Gardens, which features a golf course, resort hotel and spa in addition to ample attractions for kids like its Discovery Museum, Palm Beach, aquarium and Rainforest Pyramid, which houses a wide variety of exotic species of plants and animals collected from rainforests around the world.
Runners will start and finish the out-and-back course for the race on the grounds of the resort, and follow it twice as it winds around the roads and into portions of nearby Scholes International Airport. Thanks to its location on an island on the Gulf of Mexico, entrants can count on a fast and flat course for virtually the entire race, a nice feature if you're looking to set a personal record time.
