Texas > Orange Leaf Half Marathon & 5K
New Braunfels, TX • Saturday, July 20, 2013 • Course Map
Set for its 3rd annual running in mid-July here in the southern Texas hill country -- at a time of year when thermometers are more than likely to reach digits in the mid- to upper 90s -- the Orange Leaf Half Marathon takes runners on an out-and-back tour of New Braunfels, a smaller city of roughly 57,000 residents that lies a short drive from nearby San Antonio.
The race is sponsored by Athlete Guild, a Texas-based race timing and event management company, as well as Orange Leaf Self Serve Frozen Yogurt, and will start and finish at Orange Leaf's Creekside store location on 160 Creekside Way just outside the city. From there, runners will start the half marathon at 6:30 AM so they can get their 13.1 miles in before the weather gets too unbearably hot for running, along the mostly fast and flat terrain that extends out from the shopping center.
Due largely to the early start, registration won't be available on the day of the race, though runners will be able to pick up their race packets and numbers on race day. The course will close at 10:00 AM, 3 1/2 hours after the start of the half marathon.
Race Weather & Climate
Located along the banks of the Guadalupe River in central southern Texas, just over 30 miles northeast of San Antonio, New Braunfels typically sees July temperatures that average between 71°F and 95°F, and rainfall totals average just under 2 inches, making July its third-driest month of the year.
On the day of the race (July 20), the average high is 93°F and the average low is 73°F.
