Details
Oddly enough for an all-new half marathon event on the Texas race
calendar for 2009, Dallas's Rock to Victory Half Marathon will have a
familiar feel for any runner who's participated in the city's
long-standing White Rock Half Marathon in the past -- this race was
begun as an answer to the many runners who wanted a chance to run its
course, which takes runners down the city's Katy Trail, which has been
recognized as one of the most
scenic and just flat-out fun places to run anywhere in the country.
From the starting line near the American Airlines Center, the home of
the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, runners head out on an out-and-back course
that takes them northward through the city, through urban parks
including Robert E. Lee Park, Abbott Park and Reverchon Park, and
features waterside runs along stretches of Turtle Creek, which runs
through the city. The last several miles of the race feature the return
stretch home alonog the Katy Trail, a 3.5-mile-long stretch of urban
trail that follows what was once the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (or
"MKT," from which "Katy" came).
The race will be limited to 4,000 entrants and organizers expect it to
fill all its spaces in advance of the registration deadline, so
prospective runners are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
Wheelchair competitors are welcomed and encouraged to participate, and
begin their race at 7:55 AM, followed by those running the half
marathon at 8:00 AM.
