Event Details

A unique race that takes runners along the banks of the San Antonio River, the Missions Half Marathon, 10K & 5K at the same time features a tour of the series of national parks along the river known as "the Missions," for the group of historic Spanish missions now known as the Mission Trail through San Antonio. Runners will get a chance to run past and through the park areas of Padre Park, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan and Mission Espada through the race, which features a mixture of paved surfaces and park trails.

Designed as a tune-up training run for the Rock & Roll San Antonio Marathon & Half Marathon just a month later, the out-and-back course for the race starts and finishes at Mission County Park's Pavilion #2, located at 6030 Padre Drive. From there, the course follows the park trail known as the Mission Trail, which both follows the river and crosses it in a couple of sections, taking runners over bridges and just past the lock of the New Espada Dam.

Along the course, participants will take in the scenery of both the parks along the river and the architectural wonders of these walled communities, five of which are found along the Mission Trail. Built in the early 1700s, the missions are the outgrowth of the voyages made to the Americas more than 400 years ago by Spanish expeditioners, who built presidios and missions throughout North America on their travels through the Valley of Mexico and into what is now Texas. The San Antonio missions were first built starting in 1718, and gave rise to the city we know today.

The starting time for the race is 8:00 AM, and both music and food will be provided at the post-race awards ceremony and celebration at Mission County Park. Early registration results in savings of $20 or more for registration, so be sure to sign up early.

Race Weather & Climate

The autumn season brings San Antonio generally milder weather than the hot conditions the city is known for in the summer, but temperatures can still be quite warm into the early fall. In October, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 82°F and 59°F, while rainfall amounts average about 3.86 inches for the month.
