Utah > Layton Syracuse Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Layton, UT  •  Saturday, August 31, 2013  •  Course Map

Set for its 4th annual running in the late summer of 2013, the Layton Syracuse Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K races will take runners along a course through this northern Utah city's mostly flat city streets, which lie in the shadow of the majestic Wasatch Mountains just to the east of town.

Like the full marathon, which takes runners on a point-to-point course that starts on Antelope Island State Park in the middle of Great Salt Lake and finishes in Layton, the half will follow an a point-to-point route that starts at the half-way point of the full marathon, along the bridge to Antelope Island that looks out onto Farmington Bay and the waters of the Great Salt Lake, just north of Salt Lake City.

From there, runners then make their way entirely along the bridge and Antelope Island Drive for the first five miles, looking out onto the water along both sides of the highway. Once they make their way back into Layton, runners then make a series of turns, onto South 4000 W, West 2700 S and South 3000 W over the next few miles, most of which are largely flat.

Once runners enter the second half of the race, the course climbs steadily, especially in the last few miles as runners head make the turn onto West Gentile Street and pass through mile markers 9 and 10. Here, they start the stretch of the course that rises gradually uphill over the next three miles, which will bring the field into the finish line at Ellison Park, across the street from Ellison Park Elementary School.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in northern Utah overlooking the Great Salt Lake's Farmington Bay, just over 20 miles north of Salt Lake City, the city of Layton typically experiences mild to cool and occasionally cold weather in the early fall season, with generally wetter weather in the fall than in the summer, when little rain usually falls.

On the day of the race (Aug. 31), the city's average low temperature is 55°F and its average high is 86°F, while rainfall amounts average just under an inch for the month.
