Details
Held at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, located just 30 miles from
Salt Lake City, the Annual Snowbird/Alta Silver Spur Fall Classic is a
two-day event that includes a half marathon trail run, a mountain bike
race and a wall climbing competition. Participants can choose to do all
three events in a triathlon-type competition or compete in one or two
of the events individually.
The half marathon is the first event and
begins Saturday at 9:00 AM on the creek road just south of the Snowbird
Center. From the start, participants will follow the canyon down to the
base of the Mid Gad lift. Then the climbing begins, as the course
ascends through Gad Valley along the service road, up Rothman Way into
Peruvian Gulch and to the top of Gorilla Pass. After Gorilla Pass, the
course shifts downhill, passing through Mineral Basin and descending
into Alta through the Albion Basin. At the base of Albion, the route
follows local roads back to the Snowbird Center.
For those adventurous
enough to tackle the climbing portion of this challenge, the Speed Wall
Competition – which consists of a timed speed competition up
a 110-foot wall – is held on Saturday afternoon at The Cliff
Lodge. Then on Sunday, the Classic concludes with a challenging 7.5
mile mountain bike ride that starts at Snowbird Center, heads through
Albion Basin to Sugarloaf Pass and then follows Mineral Basin to the
finish at Hidden Peak.
