Utah > Spanish Fork Half Marathon & 5K
Spanish Fork, UT

Date

Saturday, September 11, 2010

Event Details

More than 380 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined at the late summer 2009 running of Utah's Spanish Fork Half Marathon & 5K, with more than 270 of those finishers in the half marathon alone. Featuring a mostly flat out-and-back course that takes runners along stretches of the area's Mill Race Canal and within view of the nearby Utah Lake and the often snow-capped Wasatch Mountains in the distance, the race will mark its tenth annual running in 2010.

Runners in both the half marathon and the 5K race will share the same starting line, which lies near the intersection of Spanish Fork's East Center Street and South 100 East Street. From there, those running the half follow the course as it makes two quick turns in the city and then begins a long, steady march southward toward the edges of the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, passing by Spanish Fork Cemetery as the course takes runners along River Bottom Road.

The race route keeps winding its way southward as it crosses over the Spanish Fork River along the stretch on South 100 East, and then heads southward still again with turns onto Lelano Mill Race and South 400 Street. As runners make their way toward Water Canyon, they cross a second waterway as they make their way over the bridge across the Salem Canal, and hit the turnaround point, where they begin the return route back toward the starting line area for the finish, all along the course they've just run.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in central northern Utah, about 10 miles south of Provo and just over 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, Spanish Fork typically experiences cooler weather in the late summer than in July and August, when area temperatures typically reach their hottest of the year. In September, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 80°F and 50°F, while rainfall amounts are usually relatively low (as they are here year-round), averaging about 1.5 inches for the month.

Fees

$30 for the half marathon, with Asics technical race t-shirt
$20 for the half, with no t-shirt
