Event Details

The green natural beauty of the Utah Valley, which has been the home over the centuries to Native Americans, Spanish explorers, rugged mountain men and even U.S. troops back in the mid-1800s, serves as the setting for the long, sloping downhill route at the Utah Valley Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K, which welcomed just over 1,000 runners for its 26.2-mile and 5K events in the summer of 2009, and will see the running of its first-ever half marathon in the summer of 2010.

The event's half marathon will start at the half-way point of the full marathon, on Provo Canyon Road in the Uinta National Forest, near Vivian Park. From there, those running the 13.1-mile race follow what is largely a long, sloping and mostly downhill route along the same road from the start to the finish line, along Provo Canyon Road as it merges into University Avenue and finishes at the Provo Town Centre Mall.

Along the way, runners (the race is also open to wheelchair competitors, who are advised that the course can be difficult to maneuver in some areas) will get to see some of Utah's most spectacular natural beauty, including the Utah mountains off in the distance, as well as the trees that line and shade the roads a little closer to the course. Runners are advised also that the start time for the half marathon is 5:30 AM, so they'll need to be ready to board the bus from Provo Town Centre to the starting line well in advance of the start.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in northern central Utah, about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, the city of Provo typically experiences mild to warm and occasionally quite hot weather conditions in the early summer, and relatively even precipitation throughout the year. In June, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 86°F and 54°F, while rainfall amounts average just over 1.1 inches for the month.

Fees

$40 for the half marathon, if registered by May 10, 2010
$55 between May 11 - June 3
$70 between June 4 - 8
