Details
Sponsored by the local Shelburne Athletic Club, which hosts a active
slate of 14 races throughout the year in this small Vermont town just
south of Burlington, the Field House Half Marathon takes runners on a
figure-eight-style course that boasts some of the region’s
most beautiful scenic views.
The race welcomes about 200 participants
every year, and features of mix of both paved and hard-packed dirt
trails, making it something of a combination road/trail race event.
Along the 13.1-mile course, which begins at the area known as the
“Field House” in Shelburne, runners are treated to
sights including Lake Champlain, Shelburne Falls, the Shelburne Bay and
Shelburne Farms, a 1,400-acre working farm and national historic
landmark that doubles as an environmental preservation education
center.
The race is open to both individual runners and relay teams, which are
comprised of 2 people. The course features plenty of rolling hills but
no dramatic changes in elevation, and the race (for both individuals
and relay team runners) starts at 8:00 AM.
