Event Details

The year 2009 will bring the seventh annual running of the Charlottesville Marathon & Half Marathon, which starts near downtown and takes runners on a tour of the area's historic neighborhoods, farms and sights. Along the mostly paved, out-and-back course, participants get an up-close view of places like Thomas Jefferson's Rotunda at the University of Virginia and the scenic Albemarle County wine and horse country. Race participants will get a break from the paved surface along Ridge Road, which offers a soft-pack surface, and rolling hills throughout the course.

Race Weather & Climate

Set among the lush green rolling hills of northern Virginia and within an hour's drive of Shenandoah National Park, the Charlottesville area tends to see cool to mildly warm temperatures in the early weeks of spring, with April temps averaging between 45°F and 69°F. With just under 3 1/2 inches of average precipitation during the month, April rainfall is a possibility.
