Virginia > Gar Williams Belle Haven Half Marathon
Alexandria, VA

Date

Saturday, December 5, 2009

Event Details

Last year's running of the Gar Williams Belle Haven Half Marathon welcomed just over 160 runners to the Belle Haven Marina area for a sun-filled race with temps around 50 degrees. Named for the past president of both the Road Runners Club of America and the DC Road Runners club, this race is described by participants as a hilly, challenging course -- and is always run in some of the Washington area's coldest weather! All those interested in participating in this low-key event -- registration takes place immediately before the start on Saturday morning -- are asked to make the drive to Carderock Recreation Area in Carderock, Md., just northwest of nearby Washington, D.C.

Update: The race organizers, the DC Road Runners Club, note that the course for this race has been moved for 2009 from the Belle Haven Marina to the Carderock Recreation Area in Carderock, Maryland. The race was still in the process of being approved at the new location as of November 24, but for now the organizers ask runners to plan on running at the new location at the same date and time, at 9:00 AM on Dec. 5.

Race Weather & Climate

The first weekend of December brings chilly weather conditions to the Alexandria area, as the month usually sees temperatures ranging from 32°F to 47°F. The month also tends to see moderate wet weather, with an average of just over 3 inches of precipitation.
