Roanoke, VA

Event
Details
Now an annual autumn running tradition in this southwestern Virginia
city, Roanoke's Star City Half Marathon & 5K takes runners on a
course that incorporates a mix of both hills and flat stretches along
an out-and-back course that unfolds throughout the city, from the start
and finish area at the Roanoke City Parks & Recreation facility
on Reserve Avenue. From there, the race features a loop tour of
Roanoke's city streets and neighborhoods and several city parks,
including Wasena, Smith and Mill Mountain Parks.
A few hundred runners turn out for the race each year -- between 300
and 500, organizers add -- and the event is sponsored locally by the
Roanoke-based running club Star City Striders and Virginia Amateur
Sports. The race is open to both runners and walkers, though organizers
say they discourage walkers from entering if they cannot complete the
13.1-mile course for the half marathon within the event's three-hour
time limit.
