Event Details

Set for its inaugural running in the summer of 2009, the Battle Ground Summer Fun Half Marathon starts and finishes in the mixed-use planned community of Battle Ground Village in southern Washington State, just a short drive north from nearby Vancouver, Wash., and Portland, Oregon. The race is set to coincide with the city's annual summertime Harvest Days festival, which combines parades with live music, entertainment and a family-friendly carnival in Fairgrounds Park, just to the northwest of Battle Ground Village.

The out-and-back loop course for the race starts and finishes in the heart of the Village on Rasmussen Boulevard, as runners leave the starting line with the music of the locally-based Lewis River Dixie Jazz Band cheering them on. From there, they follow the race's 13.1 miles through the rolling countryside in and around the Battle Ground Village area, past Fairgrounds Park where the Harvest Days festival will be going on as well as past Battle Ground Lake State Park, whose nearly 300 acres are home to thick, wooded forests, wide-open meadows and plentiful wildlife.

The race is open to both runners and walkers, though organizers note that all participants in the race, whether they're running or walking, will need to complete the race's 13.1 miles within four hours. Following the race, runners and walkers will receive a commemorative event Dri-Fit t-shirt and finisher's medal compliments of the race, and all are encouraged to head over to Fairgrounds Park after the race and finish line festivities to enjoy the final day of the Harvest Days festival.
