Event Details

More than 7,000 runners braved cool weather conditions as well as the wind blowing in from the waters of nearby Green Bay and Lake Michigan at the spring 2008 running of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K races, with more than 3,000 of those runners participating in the half-marathon at the ninth annual running of the event. The race has only grown in popularity since its first running in 2000, and got an extra boost in runner response when its starting and finish lines were moved from the city's downtown to Lambeau Field, the legendary home of the National Football League's Green Bay Packers.

The out-and-back loop course for the half marathon starts at the corner of Ridge Road and Lombardi Avenue in front of Lambeau Field, and leads runners out along the race's first few miles along 12th Avenue, Hickory Hill Drive and Roscoe Street. Runners then turn off Roscoe onto 13th and then again onto Biemeret Street, which they follow for a long straightaway stretch for the next few miles. Once runners reach the intersection with Argonne Drive, they turn right and then begin a stretch that follows a loop around the western edge of the race route, along 9th, Wood and Shady Lane, down to Glen Road and around to Santa Barbara Drive.

Runners in the half marathon then enter the last third of the course along Morris Avenue, which they follow for a second long straightaway until they reach Ashland Avenue and turn left onto that street and then again onto Potts Avenue. Once they're on Potts, it's just a few more blocks to the finish line at Lambeau Field in the section of the city known as Ashwaubenon, where runners end their race by running into the stadium and they get to touch the famous "Tundra" turf on the field.

The terrain for the course is made up of paved surfaces all throughout the race, which is mostly fast and flat as it is run through Green Bay's city streets and intown neighborhoods. While those running the full marathon will encounter a few more hills and changes in elevation thanks to the stretches they run along the Fox River Trail, those running the half stay within the city's residential neighborhoods, and remain on mostly flat ground throughout their race.
