Event Details

More than 1,000 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined at the late summer 2009 running of Oconomowoc's Lake Country Half Marathon & 5K, a 13.1-mile race that takes runners on an out-and-back loop course around Lac La Belle and Fowler Lake in this small Wisconsin town on the western outskirts of the Milwaukee metro area.

The race takes runners through the part of the state known as the Wisconsin lake country, and winds along a hilly course course that makes use of the area's historic country roads, taking runners past Nashotah, Nemahbin and Oconomowoc Lakes.

From the starting line at Crosspoint Community Church on State Road 67, runners follow the loop course in a roughly clockwise direction around the lake, starting out first for a long straightaway along North Lake Road and then turning onto Sunset Lane. From there, runners follow the course through the residential neighborhoods that lie just to the east of the lake, crossing over the ithsmus of land between Lac la Belle and Fowler Lake along North Lake Road and then turning onto Wisconsin Road once runners reach the southern edge of the lake.

The race course stays close to the lakeshore for most of the route around the southern and western edges of the lake, along Mary Lane and Lac la Belle Drive. Runners veer off toward the north at Saeger Avenue, and turn onto Lang Road and then again onto Pennsylvania Street for the home stretch along the last few miles of the race, passing by Rolling Hills Country Club along the way. As runners make their way along Lac la Belle Drive toward the finish line, runners take a brief detour onto Woodlake Circle, then make the loop and continue back onto Lac la Belle for the finish back at the church.
