Wisconsin > Lake Country Half Marathon & 5K
Oconomowoc, WI  •  Saturday, August 31, 2013  •  Course Map

More than 780 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined at the late summer 2012 running of Oconomowoc's Lake Country Half Marathon & 5K, a 13.1-mile race that takes runners on an out-and-back loop course around Lake Lac La Belle and past Foweler in this small Wisconsin town on the western outskirts of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

Hosted since 2006 by the De Pere, Wis.-based Midwest Sports Events race management company, the Lake Country race takes runners through the part of the state known as the Wisconsin lake country, and winds along a hilly course that makes use of the area's historic country roads, taking runners past Nashotah, Nemahbin and Oconomowoc Lakes and on a sweeping loop route around the shoreline of Lake Lac La Belle.

From the starting line at Crosspoint Community Church on North Lake Road (State Road 67), runners start out by heading south along North Lake Road toward Lac La Belle Drive, where they turn right and head west along the lake's shoreline, toward Running Hills Golf Course. Runners will make a brief detour along Arlene Lane and Saeger Avenue before turning right again onto Lac La Belle Drive, which brings runners back to the lake shoreline and continues the loop around the lake.

The next few miles of the course unfold along the tree-lined residential neighborhoods that line the lakeshore, giving runners plenty of views of the lake houses, boats and piers sticking out onto the water as they head southeast. The course continues southeast into the heart of downtown Oconomowoc, bringing runners past a pair of city parks and onto Wisconsin Avenue before turning left onto Main Street/North Lake Road right in the heart of the city.

Following the pivot onto North Lake Road, runners then head north along the strait that separates Lac La Belle and Fowler Lake, and then into the residential neighborhoods north of the city around Crystal Lake. After a three-mile loop through the neighborhoods there, runners return to North Lake Road for the home stretch of the half marathon, which heads north and finishes back at Crosspoint Community Church.

The scheduled starting time for the race is 7:00 AM, and runners will need to be able to complete the race's 13.1 miles within 3 hours, 45 minutes in order to be counted among the official finishers. Age group awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: age 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, and age 95 and above.
