Wisconsin > Lake Geneva Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Lake Geneva, WI • Saturday, May 12, 2012 • Course Map
More than 690 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in all four races combined at the late spring 2011 running of the Lake Geneva Marathon, which offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K run and a 5K race for both runners and walkers, including 260 runners in the half marathon alone.
Each of the event's four races takes runners along the shoreline of the nine-mile-long Lake Geneva, known as "one of the great blue lakes of the world," and which has been a popular spot for tourists since the 1800s. Challenging and scenic, the half begins at the same starting line as the full at 8:00 a.m. and finishes at Reid Park in nearby Fontana, taking runners on a tour of glacier-forged hills and along an ancient native American trail.
Runners can expect some big hills and long, gradual uphill stretches along the route, especially around the middle of the race in the second half, as miles 7 through 9 take runners along a long gradual upslope. While the full marathon starts and finishes at the eastern end of the lake, in Flatiron Park in Lake Geneva, the half marathon follows a point-to-point route that starts with the full marathon in the park and finishes at the lake's western end, in nearby Fontana.
