Event Details

Roughly 100 runners have come out to participate and cross the finish line in each of the last few years at Stevens Point's Justiceworks Half Marathon & 5K, which takes runners through some of central Wisconsin's most serene and scenic territory along a course that winds through riverside parks, the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and around the shores of the Schmeekle Reserve lake just outside town.

Sponsored, organized and managed by Justiceworks, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting restorative justice and rehabilitative programs in Portage County (where Stevens Point lies), the race starts and finishes on either end of the town's Clark Street Bridge, which straddles the Wisconsin River that cuts through the local area. From there, the course takes runners eastward through downtown Stevens Point, past the Centerpoint Marketplace on Main Street and through the university campus on its way toward the loop around the lake, just off Michigan Avenue.

After the lake loop, runners continue northward along Michigan, crossing under Interstate 39 and then taking a right for another route detour, this time around Eagle Summit and Falcons Cove, just north of Sentry Point Golf Course. Runners then re-join the straightaway portion of the course along North Reserve, following it northward until they hit the turnaround point and head back towards town. As runners make their way southward, they follow North Reserve and Michigan all the way to Northpoint Drive, where they turn right and head east toward the Wisconsin River.

The last few miles of the race along the river offer up some of its most beautiful scenery, as runners follow the course through Buklot Park, along the Green Circle Trail and reach the finish line at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, on the eastern side of the Clark Street Bridge. Though runners encounter a few small hills here and there, overall the course is fast and flat and run on paved surfaces throughout the race.
