Event Details

Ready to run a half-marathon by the light of the full moon? You'll get a chance to do it at the Sheboygan County Half Marathon Full Moon Race, which takes runners on a west-to-east point-to-point course between the Wisconsin towns of Plymouth and Sheboygan, along a course that's mostly flat and follows an overall downhill elevation path from start to finish. The course takes runners along Sheboygan County's Old Plank Road Trail, a 17-mile trail which features a combination of paved and turf surfaces and is popular with locals for hiking, walking, running, biking, horseback riding and inline skating.

From the starting line near the Wal-Mart on Highway 57 in Plymouth, the race course follows a roughly west-to-east route, taking runners first northward along 57 and then onto the Old Plank Road Trail, which runs parallel to Highway 23. Runners follow the trail from Plymouth to Sheboygan Falls, turning right once they reach Ridgeline Road for a quick detour onto Upper Road and then Woodland Road, before re-joining the trail for a brief stretch. Runners then turn again onto Highland Drive, which takes them into the home stretch of the race along Twin Oaks Road and Erie Avenue, toward the finish line at the parking lot of Sheboygan's Memorial Mall.

Nearly 200 runners crossed the finish line at the mall at the summer 2008 running of the race, which featured a starting time of 7:00 PM, just as the sun was going down and timed to coincide with the full moon. All runners are expected to complete the race within three hours, as organizers begin closing the course at 10:00 PM.
