Details
Known for its rugged mountain terrain and gorgeous scenery as one of
the country's popular winter vacation areas for skiing and
snowmobiling, this western Wyoming town opens its arms to about 250
runners each year for the Pinedale Half Marathon, 10K and 1-Mile race,
which take runners from the center of downtown to the banks of Fremont
Lake, up in the mountain country surrounding the town. Runners thinking
of participating need to be ready for a high-altitude event, as the
race starts at an elevation of 7,175 feet above sea level and
experiences an overall gain of about 500 feet through the course of the
race.
An out-and-back race that starts and finishes at Rendezvous Pointe on
East Magnolia Street in Pinedale, the half-marathon portino of the race
takes runners in a
generally northeastern direction toward Fremont Lake, along a course
made up of a mixture of paved roads, asphalt bicycle paths and
maintained dirt roads (once runners reach the lake).
Both runners and walkers are welcome for each of the three races, and
organizers add that participants may run or walk any distance they
choose during each race. The races also have cascading start times --
the half marathon begins at 8:30 AM, the 10K at 9:30 AM and the 1-Mile
race at 10:30 AM.

Weather & Climate
Located just miles from the western border of the state and about 50
miles southeast of Jackson Hole, Wy., the town of Pinedale tends to
experience highly variable weather in the early days of fall, as
September temperatures average between 67°F and 30°F.
Rainfall tends to be scarce, however, as the town sees an average of
about 1.18
inches of precipitation for the month.
