The 30 Biggest Half Marathons in the U.S.

Most people know about the biggest marathons: Boston, New York, London. And other huge races like Atlanta’s Peachtree Road Race. But what about the biggest, most popular half marathons in the U.S. and the world?

Some research I did a few days ago about the fastest and slowest half marathons in the U.S. made me curious to find more statistics on our favorite race distance and the runners who are participating in them.

Running USA has compiled a wealth of numbers on exactly that in its annual Half Marathon Report issued back in April, so I found the nation’s largest half marathon fields by the number of finishers for 2013.

Here’s the list, and bear in mind that some of these races already have surpassed these numbers at their 2014 runnings:

  1. OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon – 30,059
  2. Nike Women’s Half Marathon San Francisco – 26,406
  3. Walt Disney World Half Marathon – 23,148
  4. Disney Princess Half Marathon – 22,739
  5. NYRR Brooklyn Half Marathon – 21,427

  18. UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon – 14,016
  19. P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Half Marathon – 13,430
