Presenting the third annual War Eagle Run Fest Half Marathon and 5k, an event centered around the Auburn University community, its athletes, and its fans; as you can imagine, the crowds are plenty and the energy is high.
With moderate hills along paved roads, the Half Marathon is a mildly challenging circular course for intermediate runners, comprising a total of almost 900 feet of ascent and 900 feet of descent.
From the campus and its intertwined university city streets to the stadium and athletics track, this race is all that it’s cracked up to be, bringing the energy from the moment you arrive.
Starting at 7:00 a.m. sharp, runners will begin at the start line located just outside Jordan-Hare Stadium on the Auburn University campus. Once each corralled section has been waved through the start line, runners will then proceed to run passed Toomer’s Corner; an iconic street corner at the intersection of Magnolia Ave and College Street.
Along the course, runners will jog past Auburn University’s President’s House and several other notable landmarks including the Hutsell-Rosen Track with which they’ll run a lap around.
Finally, the Coliseum and Auburn Arena will be reached before ultimately returning to Jordan-Hare Stadium where it all began.
With a cut-off time of 11:00 a.m., all participants of the half marathon are required to hold an 18-minute per-mile pace. Failure to do so will result in a DQ.
In good old Auburn University fashion, all participants will then join one another for a tailgate outside the stadium once the finish line has been crossed and the commemorative medal has been obtained.
Race Weather & Climate
Set in the eastern side of the state 40 miles west of the Georgia state lines, Auburn, Alabama, in mid-February may require runners to layer up, as average high temperatures range from 57ºF to 62ºF, and average lows drop to 35ºF to 40ºF. Despite the cooler conditions, avid runners can appreciate the crisp air and relatively dry weather, with rainfall averaging around 4 inches for the month. It’s an excellent time to explore the Auburn University campus and local trails, provided you dress appropriately for the cooler temperatures.
On race day (February 18), the average low is 43ºF and the average high is 56ºF.
