Offering both an in-person and virtual option, the Gilbert Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k race event has been ongoing since 1993, bringing competitors, health advocates, and the community together for one of the best half marathons in Arizona to raise funds and awareness for Shun the Fun Foundation.
Flat and fast, this course is the go-to for many seeking to PR their half marathon chip time! While it’s not the most scenic, offering generic city street views throughout, it’s important to remember that it’s more than just a race but rather an epic community event with pre and post-race fun to be had by all! Embrace it and you’ll surely have a blast (and hopefully a PR to brag about too!).
Starting in Verde @ Coole Station on 3975 E Williams Field Road, runners will exit and enter Recker Road. It’s then a hard right onto an offroad trail right before reaching Santan Freeway, looping back toward Recker Road.
At this stage, runners continue north on Recker Road before turning onto Sun Cir Trail. Again, this trail is yet another loop back toward Recker Road where runners will then persist south back toward the finish line.
All runners will receive an official race t-shirt, a commemorative medal, a runner swag bag, and of course, some long-awaiting post-race refreshments to celebrate. With an official half marathon cut-off time of 3.5 hours, this should leave enough time for runners and walkers alike to finish in fashion.
Race Weather & Climate
Gilbert, Arizona, is located in the southeastern part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The nearest major city is Phoenix, just a short drive to the northwest, making Gilbert a vibrant and growing suburban community within the Greater Phoenix region.
Gilbert, in late November, continues to experience mild fall weather. Daytime temperatures average around 74°F (23°C), with nighttime lows cooling to about 48°F (9°C). Precipitation levels remain minimal.
On race day (November 18), the average low is 48ºF and the average high is 68ºF.
