The XTERRA Arizona Trail Run Series is a premier 7-day event that hosts race distances from 5k all the way up to marathon distance and everything in between. Notably, the Estrella Mountain Trail Run offers a Marathon, Half Marathon, 12k, and 5k.
Falling on December 15th, the Estrella Mountain Trail Run operates during one of the cooler months in Arizona, making for a refreshing and enjoyable race day. Offering beautiful scenery throughout, this course comprises views of surrounding mountain ranges, desert landscapes, and wetlands, all within Estrella Mountain Regional Park.
Taking runners through Estrella Mountain Regional Park, this course is challenging yet accommodating for every fitness level, taking place on two conjoining yet persistent trails of dirt and desert.
As a point-to-point course that brings runners close to where the start line is, runners will journey through a winding trail called Junior Loop before seamlessly entering Long Loop for the duration of the race, until they find themselves at the finish line.
While this event series is a great community event for all fitness levels, the half marathon course, along with the marathon course, is a competitive track race whereby winners qualify for the series championships.
Race Weather & Climate
Situated in the southwestern reaches of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Goodyear enjoys a prime location. Phoenix, the nearest major city, is a convenient drive to the northeast, offering residents of Goodyear access to the diverse amenities of the Greater Phoenix area.
Goodyear in mid-December enjoys pleasant winter weather. Daytime highs reach an average of about 67°F (19°C), while nighttime lows drop to around 41°F (5°C). Precipitation levels are minimal during this time.
On race day (December 15), the average low is 43ºF and the average high is 60ºF.

- The 42K start time is 7:00 AM.
- The 24K start time is 8:00 AM.
- The 12K start time is 8:30 AM.
- The 5K start time is 9:00 AM.
