Set among the mountainous green terrain of northwest Arkansas – and just a short drive from Bentonville, the world headquarters of the retail giant Walmart – the home of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks football team plays host to the 11th annual Fayetteville Half Marathon this fall.
The race takes runners through the university campus and the city at large, for a race that will also feature a 10K, 5K and one-mile fun run & walk.
Runners start the half marathon — as well as the other races in the event — on the University of Arkansas campus along Leroy Pond Drive.
When the race begins, runners first head south along South Razorback Road before turning into business and residential areas of Fayetteville. After reaching the southernmost point of the race while running around the Fayetteville Country Club, runners then head north back into downtown Fayetteville.
The final few miles are run in downtown Fayetteville, passing through Walker Park and along the Frisco Trail before coasting downhill for the last half mile and crossing the finish line at Razorback Gardens.
The half marathon has a time limit of 3.5 hours, or a 16-minute mile, which makes the event a good one for brisk walkers.
