Runners get a chance to take in the sometimes hilly but always scenic streets of the home of the University of Arkansas at the Hogeye Marathon, Half Marathon & Relays, which starts and finishes in nearby Springdale and features trail and road stretches into Fayetteville.
Filled with many rolling and some steep hills along both the half- and full-marathon courses, the race is set to feature a newly designed course this year, an out-and-back loop that will start and finish on Emma Avenue overlooking Spring Creek in Springdale, just outside Fayetteville.
The race takes runners along a clockwise, out-and-back course that winds past Friendship Cemetery and within sight of Lake Fayetteville, a route organizers say is plenty scenic and with mostly gently rolling hills.
More than 1,100 runners crossed the finish line in all three races combined at the event’s 2016 running — including just over 700 runners at the half marathon alone — so the race offers a sizeable crowd with plenty of fellow travelers along the race route, without drawing overwhelming crowds.
