Despite what the name implies, you’ll have an exciting time during the Boring Marathon, Half Marathon & 8K. For those eager to tackle Boston, the full marathon is a qualifying race.

The race is held in support of the Sam Barlow High School Track & Field and Cross Country teams and the West Orient Middle School Track team.

The Half-Boring Half Marathon takes place as an out-and-back course on the Springwater Trail, a paved rails-to-trails conversion that follows a former train line from Boring to Portland. Expect to find a mostly-flat course with a few gentle hills along the way.

Though the full marathon crosses roadways at several key points, both the half marathon and 8K are free from vehicular traffic. (The course will still be open to other bikers and pedestrians, however.)

Along the course, aid stations are approximately every 2 miles. Water and gatorade are offered at each, and porta potties are available at key intervals. To bolster morale, organizers offer an award for the Best Aid Station—the 2021 winners went with a flamingo theme.

Take Note

Walkers are welcome at these races. However, course support will end after 6 hours. Participants planning to finish outside of the scheduled 6 hours should be vigilant while on public roads and plan their aid accordingly. Organizers will wait for all participants to finish—no one will be left behind or disqualified due to time!

The marathon is limited to 130 participants, the half to 220, and the 8K to 150. While this is not a big city race, expect to find good cheer, enthusiastic volunteers, and have a Boring ol’ time!
