Artichoke Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Sunday, April 2, 2023 • Pescadero, CA • Course Map

In keeping with the event’s title — and the pride of the local agriculture industry — every finisher is presented with a real artichoke at Pescadero’s Artichoke Half Marathon & 10K, which takes runners on a tour of this town just off the gorgeous windswept Pacific coastline in Northern California, just down the road from Half Moon Bay and a couple hours’ drive from the nearby San Francisco Bay Area.

Run along a course that’s fast and flat, the race usually enjoys mild, sunny weather thanks to its spring slot in the region’s road race schedule.

Runners start the out-and-back course for the race at Duarte’s Taven, which lies at the intersection of Pescadero Creek Road and Stage Road, just a few minutes’ drive from the coastline and the Pescadero State Beach area.

Though most of the course takes runners along paved country roads with a number of rolling hills, the scenic race course through the beach and coastal areas also includes three miles of trails, for runners who enjoy more of a challenging, off-road run.

The course doesn’t show the run going by the beach or trails. It’s all paved roads in Cloverdale and Canyon Road. Are you changing the course this year? Because I participated before and it didn’t go by the beach.

The course is described as “fast and flat” but the elevation profile shows 1,100 feet of rise and 1,100 feet of decline. Is that correct? It sounds hilly if that’s the case. Thanks!
