Vibha Dream Mile Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Sunday, June 4, 2023 • San Jose, CA • Course Map

Just a short drive east from the streets and gleaming office buildings of San Jose and Silicon Valley, the green grasslands and hills overlooking the city serve as the setting for the Vibha Dream Mile race, which has grown over the years from a small race begun in 1998 into an event that usually sees more than 1,000 runners and walkers cross the finish line in the race’s half marathon, 10K and 5K combined today.

Set to follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes near San Jose’s Silver Creek Sportsplex — the half marathon takes runners largely along the Coyote Creek Trail.

It’s a more than 18-mile-long running, walking and biking trail that meanders alongside the creek of the same name here in Santa Clara County and takes runners from Hellyer Park to Shady Oaks Park to Metcalf Park and back.

Runners who’ve participated in the event in previous years say much of the course is flat terrain with only slight hills, though the roadways are sloped in some sections, which can make for difficult running.

After the race, the event also hosts a carnival with games and activities for kids as well as a variety of Indian food, to introduce runners and walkers who’ve participated in the event to more of what the Vibha organization is all about, which is to help underprivleged children living in India to lead better lives.

Founded in 1991, Vibha today has a network of more than 800 volunteers in 15 cities across the United States, all of whom work to support the organization’s mission to improve the lives of India’s underprivledged children — of whom there are millions living in poverty in the county — by helping them get access to better education, health and vocational skills.

The course for the half marathon will be USATF-certified, and organizers plan to have water stations located approximately every 1.5 to 2 miles along the route, where they’ll be stocked with water, Gatorade and bananas as well as Gu gel packets and salt candies.
