Island Running Festival Half Marathon in Alameda, CA

After a three-year hiatus, the September Half is returning to Alameda, and this year’s Bank of Marin’s Island Running Festival promises to be an extraordinary event. The festival boasts a variety of distances to cater to runners of all levels, including a Half Marathon, 10k (6.2 miles), and a 5k (3.2 miles), ensuring that there’s a race for every participant. However, the 1-mile run won’t be part of the 2023 edition due to scheduling conflicts and congestion on Alameda Point during the race weekend.

The race course itself is a magnificent showcase of the island’s beauty. Runners will traverse a diverse landscape, taking in the scenic Alameda Point with its new running trails, meandering along the estuary shoreline, passing by the historic USS Hornet, and ultimately reaching a breathtaking finish venue.

What sets this year’s race apart is its commitment to benefiting the local community. The event will support two exceptional charities: The Alameda Education Foundation and Alameda Meals on Wheels. It’s an opportunity for the people of Alameda to come together for a day of running, walking, and contributing to their community, making this running festival a marquee island event.

Organizers anticipate an impressive turnout of 1,500 runners, with an additional 1,000 spectators visiting the island. This influx of participants and supporters is a chance to introduce visitors to Alameda’s splendid running trails, scenic views, and the thriving local businesses in and around the city.

The Bank of Marin Island Running Festival extends beyond just the races. It evolves into a two-day festival of events, featuring an expo centered around health and wellness. Additionally, the festival fosters community involvement by bringing together local schools, businesses, and beneficiaries, uniting Alameda in a spirit of togetherness.

Participants can look forward to a host of amenities, including custom T-shirts, finisher medals, race bibs, and a well-deserved feast of food and drinks at the finish line. It’s a race that caters to everyone, from seasoned runners to beginners, and from individuals to groups.

The festival’s schedule is packed with activities, starting with packet pick-up at Alameda Island Brewing on September 21st. On September 23rd, an expo and packet pick-up will be held at Alameda Point. Finally, on the morning of September 24th, all races will kick off at City Hall West on Alameda Point at the picturesque time of 6:59 am.

Parking is available at the venue site, ensuring a hassle-free experience for all participants and attendees. The expo and packet pick-up during the race weekend will be conveniently hosted at the venue.

This year’s Bank of Marin Island Running Festival is not just a race; it’s a celebration of community, health, and wellness. It’s an opportunity to discover the natural beauty of Alameda while supporting local charities.
