Ideal for first-time trail runners, Lake Chabot 50k, Marathon, 30k, Half Marathon, and 8k takes place in beautiful Castro Valley, California.
Trail Runners. Situated in the East Bay, Castro Valley, this event is held just 27 miles from San Francisco and is known for its convenient suburban lifestyle and scenic Californian views.
The course itself, though appropriate for beginners, is known to be a navigational challenge with threats of poison oak throughout the race. Stay on course, however, and you’ll avoid all unnecessary roadblocks, able to enjoy the entire experience with ease.
Located in Lake Chabot Regional Park starting on 17600 Lake Chabot Road, this half-marathon course starts in the Marina and journeys around the famous Lake Chabot Reservoir and surrounding hills.
Starting at the Marina, runners set off on the trails of Lake Chabot Regional Park. Reaching Cameron Loop, runners find themselves on Live Oak Trail before reaching Brandon Trail.
The turnaround point is near Jackson Trail where runners begin to loop back toward the start/finish line. Onward on Goldenrod to Bass Cove, runners ultimately find themselves on West Shore for the final straight.
With a cut-off time of 8.5 hours, all participants have virtually all day to complete the course, making it a welcoming event for beginners and experienced trail runners alike. Although a generous cut-off time, all participants are encouraged to rigorously follow trail-posted flags for safety and navigation.
