Quarry Turkey Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Set for its 13th annual running this year along the same route used at the springtime Western Pacific Half Marathon, Fremont’s Quarry Turkey Half Marathon unfolds through the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area here along the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area, and takes runners mostly along trails through the park.

Runners start the out-and-back course for the race near the parking lot at the northeastern end of the park. From there, they’ll follow the trails that wind around the edges of the lakes, along mostly gravel trails and fire trails through Quarry Lakes.

Once they make their way through the first three miles, runners will next turn onto the Alameda Creek Regional Trail, which stretches from Niles Canyon in the west to Coyote Hills, and then eastward up to the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge on the bay.

This stretch of the race will take them outside Quarry Lakes and alongside Alameda Creek for the next few miles, which stretch all the way to the turnaround point just under Interstate 880.

Thanks to its location near the waterfront, there are really no hills to speak of, so with a forgiving surface and flat terrain, that means personal record times are possible for runners looking to set them.

The race also is open to runners, walkers and hikers — thanks to its generous 4-hour course time limit.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along the southeastern shore of San Francisco Bay, about 18 miles north of San Jose, Fremont typically sees cool and usually dry weather in November, which has brought record temperatures here as low as 30°F (in 1971) and as high as 84°F (in 1955).

On race day (Nov. 30), the average low is 45°F and the average high is 62°F.
